Our local animal shelters are a wily bunch! One was at a company open house at the business where my husband works -- since it was the middle of the day it was mostly employees and their kids who are on summer break from school. Well, my husband and son almost came home with a furry friend. How could they resist? Animals have been a part of our family's home for the last two decades so it feels strange for all of us to be animal-less. If, like us, animals are usually a part of your family I have two fun events for you this Saturday, August 4.
First up is an encore production on Pawcasso at the Walk In Art Center, Schuylkill Haven from 10 am to noon. Bring your leashed dog and for $5 they can "create a masterpiece" by dipping their paws in paint (safe for animals) and creating an 8" x 10" painting. This is great fun for everyone, the process makes a great video for Facebook and add a simple frame and the canvas makes a super present from your furry friend for their favorite human. They're also accepting dog food donations for the local SPCA.
If you want a wide variety of events stop by the Hegins Pet Festival from 10 am to 5 pm at Hegins Park. Donations for local animal shelters will be accepted: food, blankets, paper products, cleaning supplies, cash, etc. There will be events for animals and humans. Your canine buddy can get his "portrait" sketched along with a few other crazy things. There will be plenty of vendors -- many animal related. For humans there will be BBQ & chili tastings, face painting, a horse shoe tournament, music and more.
Don't forget that there are still four days left of the Schuylkill County Fair. I guarantee there will be plenty of animals to see! Along with the animals there will be music, crafts, food, contests, rides and more. All for just $5! It's the perfect place to take the whole family and budget friendly! You can get more details here.
