If you're an animal lover there is a lot of fun to be had in August (both with and without your furry friend) that can help other animals. If you can bear to think about the holidays, I have a great idea for a Christmas gift for an animal lover -- a painting created by their favorite dog. The Walk-In Art Center, Schuylkill Haven is hosting Paw-casso on Saturday, August 3 from 10 AM to noon in the parking lot. Bring your favorite dog (leashed please) and our artists will help them create an 8" x 10" masterpiece for just $5. Profits and any donated dog food will benefit local SPCA. No registration necessary.
Come back to the Walk-In Art Center sans doggy for a Paint and Sip to benefit the Ruth Steinert SPCA. Space is limited so register here. The $30 class includes paint, brushes, canvases and instruction by Andrea Perno. The class is from 2 PM to 5 PM and is for those 12 and over.
If you're feeling lucky stop by the Chinese Pawction at the Pine Grove VFW to benefit the Ruth Steinert SPCA. You can Shop and Drop on Friday, August 9 from 6 PM to 8 PM and Saturday, August 10 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Winners will be pulled beginning at 1 PM. Refreshments will also be for sale.
In the mood for a movie? Come see The Secret Lives of Pets at the Majestic Theater, Pottsville on Friday, August 23 at 7 PM. The movie is free with a donation that will benefit the Hillside and Ruth Steinert animal shelters. In addition to a monetary donation you can also bring:
One of the craziest times I spent with a dog friend was at the Bow Wow Pool Party at JFK Pool, Pottsville. This year's party is on Saturday, August 24 from 11 AM to 4 PM (raindate is August 25). Cost is $8 per dog. There will also be a 50/50 raffle and basket auction. This benefits the Pottsville Dog Park.
