My son and I are making apple dumplings this week -- actually a shortcut kind of apple dumpling with Pillsbury crescent rolls, apples, cinnamon and streusel topping. But if you're yearning for a homemade apple dumpling why not visit one of the two apple festivals on Saturday, October 15.
Ashland Applefest on 8th and Centre Streets from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Along with apple treats there will be other food, games, music and pumpkin decorating. There will also be a basket raffle shop and drop on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Washington Fire Company.
Apple Fest at Friedens Lutheran Church, 525 Church Street, New Ringgold from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. As far as apples go there will be pies, dumplings and sundaes. Along with that there will be other baked goods, soups, BBQ, hot dogs, halupkis, ice cream and more. There will also be door prizes, raffle tickets, a basket raffle and an apple dessert tasting competition that begins at 2 p.m.
If you're looking for something a little more substantial to ward off the cool weather don't miss "A Night of Chili and Chills" at the Veterans Memorial Building, Orwigsburg on Saturday, October 22 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sponsored by the Orwigsburg Business and Professional Association the might will give you a chance to sample chilis and vote for your favorite. There will also be Yuengling on tap, music, a Halloween talk and collectible display by Ellen Stump. There will be a "Autumn in Orwigsburg" silent art auction. Costumes are welcome! You can get a ticket for $10 at Market Square Coffee house, PawPrints Pet Salon, 419 Cafe, Looking Your Best and M&T Bank or $12 at the door. For more information contact 617-462-9167.
