Snow showers, freezing rain, blustery cold...it doesn't exactly make you think about outdoorsy things. But it won't be winter forever! If you're missing outdoor fun then register for the fly fishing classes at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park clubhouse tomorrow, January 19 and January 26. These free classes will be led by Bruce Schneck, Tony Mione and members of Schuylkill County Trout Unlimited. Register by calling 717-979-0235 or 717-829-4301.
Want to help out the Pottsville Free Public Library? If you're a chili lover or maker I have the perfect event for you. The library and Humane Fire Company No. 1 are hosting a chili cook-off on Saturday, January 14 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the fire company. There is a $10 fee for chefs and a $5 fee for tasters (chefs also get to taste).
You can register to participate at the library or fire company up until 5 p.m. today. Chefs should provide a slow cooker with two gallons of chili. Bring your own extension cord and display a sign listing any food allergens in your ingredients. Learn more about the cook-off here.
How are your New Year's resolutions going? Do any of your resolutions involve doing good things for others? If so, how about donating blood. All it costs you is a bit of time, it's practically painless and they give you juice and cookies. Just about everyone over the age 17 in good health is eligible to donate. To learn more check out the Red Cross page on blood drives here.
