Want to meet the newest local artists? Then don't miss the Gallery Opening for local high school artists at the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts, 1440 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville. The opening will be this Sunday, April 10 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eleven high schools will be submitting pieces and the exhibit will include drawing, painting, sculpture, pottery, photography, graphics and jewelry.
My daffodils and forsythia are blooming and I can't wait to see more color in my garden. But while I'm waiting there's plenty of gardening fun to be had with the help of the Penn State Extension and the Master Gardeners. First up is a Rain Barrel Workshop on Tuesday, April 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sweet Arrow Lake Pavilion, Pine Grove. If you need inspration for your garden why not go on a gardener's field trip? The Schuylkill Master Gardeners are organizing a trip to the Tyler Arboretum and Redbud Native Plant Nursery, both in Media, on May 17. ATTENTION FISHERS! For just $5 young fishers can take part in the Schuylkill Haven Trout Rodeo on April 9 (and the locations of 10 secret stocked spots). On April 9 young fishers can only catch three fish. The Schuylkill Haven Rec Department also has a program for lending rods to children who need one (no cost). Wednesday, April 13 -- Lyme Disease: Summer Health and Fitness at Blue Mountain High School at 7 p.m. The presentation will be led by Dr. J.A. Garabedian and Leah Zerbe.
Saturday, April 16 -- Roaring Creek Tract led by Robin Tracey from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This eight mile walk that is rated moderate will meet at the Roaring Creek parking lot off Route 42 north of Aristes. Bring a lunch and your dog if you like.
Wednesday, April 20 -- Day of Wellness at the Schuylkill Mall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be dozens of vendors, door prizes every half hour, health screenings, as well as an Avenues Choir performance at 10:30 a.m. and Emergency Preparedness preparation at noon.
