The time is ticking until Mother's Day -- do you have a plan? Flowers are always a great plan -- most moms love them and the season is right. So why not get mom a great gift and shop locally? There are three plants sales that I know of in the county this weekend. First, my favorite: the annual plant sale at the Schuylkill Technology Center in Marlin with plants raised by the students (as well as a few garden decorations created by the welding class). The sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the profits benefit the students' programs. You can get a sneak peek at some of the flowers available here. On Saturday, they'll all be moved to the front parking lot -- and this is a rain or shine sale. If you need more information contact Mario Galanti at email@example.com
Next, if your mom has a special love of lavender head out to the Hope Hill Lavender Farm for their plant sale on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also give the plant gift that keeps on giving all summer long with a heirloom tomato plant from Little Peace Farm, 257 Moonhill Drive, Schuylkill Haven. They're having a Mother's Day sale on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. It's not just tomatoes...you can also find other vegetables, flowers, herbs, edible flower hanging baskets, organic potting soil and more.
If you want to give mom a rain check, the South Schuylkill Garden Club is having their annual plant sale on May 21. That same weekend there's a native plant sale at Hawk Mountain. More information to follow on both these sales.
Did you know that there are 99 days between Memorial Day and Labor Day (the time we all think of as summer, no matter when the official first/last days of summer are)? Since we found out our family has decided to make a list of 99 things we want to do this summer. Some are small like cook on the grill and go swimming while others are big like walk on the Ocean City boardwalk and set off fireworks. I highly recommend a summer list for every family! If you need some help thinking up fun things to do, see, eat or enjoy don't miss the Schuylkill County Tourism Expo at the Fairlane Village Mall this Satuday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dozens of local businesses and attractions will be at the expo sharing information. While you're at the mall, stop by American Red Cross blood drive in the storefront next to the Super Shoes store between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
