Young bicyclists can attend the bicycle rodeo at the Shenandoah Heights Fire Company, 148 Swatara Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. the event is hosted by West Mahanoy Township police.
If you're a runner, early registration for the Port Carbon Firecracker 5K ends on Saturday. The race is July 4 and up until Saturday registration fee is $25. You can register at the library, borough hall or www.pretzelcitysports.com For more information call 570-622-5824. It's too late for early registration but you can still run in the Coal Cracker 10K and Fun Run this Saturday in Shenandoah. I'm in a music mood...how about you? If you feel like enjoying a concert I have all types coming up that you might be interested in. Many are BYOLC (Bring Your Own Lawn Chair) but half the fun of a summer concert is being outdoors. Somehow, music sounds different when you're enjoying it under a summer sky.

Looking for a summer read for you or a young person? The Pottsville Library is having their Used Book Sale today from noon to 2 p.m. in the basement. Young people can head to Boscov's at the Fairlane Village Mall on Saturday, June 9 for Summer Reading on the Road. Children of all ages have a chance to play Bingo and win books at 11 a.m.
Tomorrow is National Trails Day! Why not throw on your hiking boots and head for a trail with the whole family whether it's the Appalachian Trail or just the walking path around your local playground. It's also a day to help improve trails around the country. If this Saturday doesn't work for you there is a whole month of hikes planned so make your own national trails day.

Meet at the AT parking lot at Routes 443 & 72 to carpool. This 8 mile hike is rated moderate and will explore Cold Springs at Hawk Watch, Fort Indiantown Gap. Bring a lunch but no dogs, please. You MUST register for this hike. Call Robin at 570-467-2506.
Sunday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Meet at Sunbury Road and Hillside Road for this 7 mile hike rated easy. Led by "Hiker Jim" this hike will offer strip mine regrowth, the black desert, Mine Hill Gap and the Heckscherville Valley.
Saturday, June 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Meet at parking lot on Gold Mine Road in the State Game Lands for a 3 mile hike rated moderate. Led by Mike Centeleghe this hike will also offer a lesson about the trees of Penn's Woods.
