Chances are you thought by now all the outdoor concerts would be winding up. But with the weather so warm the Tamaqua Area chamber of Commerce decided to extend their Summer Concert Series into September! If you haven't caught a free outdoor concert this summer you still have three chances. Concerts are held at the Tamaqua Train Station on Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and maybe even a picnic supper. Here's how the Summer Concert Series will be ending this year:

I'm a fan of any kind of eating festival -- ethnic food, peach, strawberry, blueberry, I might even give that Garlic Fest in California a whirl someday -- but with fall upon us the festival of the day is APPLE. St. John's United Church of Christ, 232 E. Market Street, Orwigsburg is hosting their Apple Festival on Saturday, September 8 from 9 a.m. until ? along with apple dumplings and pies there will be BBQ, a Basket Raffle and a drawing on a beautiful homemade quilt at 1 pm.
St. Michael the Archangel Church, Sunbury Street, Minersville is also hosting an apple event - an Apple Dumpling Sale! Orders are being taken for $5.50 apple dumpling and $6.00 sugar free apple dumplings until September 26. Delivery date is October 10. Call 570-544-4741 to place an order.
There are also two upcoming festivals which, although they aren't dedicated to a specific food are sure to have many delectable treats as well as crafts, vendors, entertainment and more. Heritage Day in Orwigsburg on Saturday, September 8 in the Town Square from 9 am to 3 pm. Minersville Spirit Day on Sunday, September 9 from 10 am to 5 pm. Spirit Day will also include a 5K and 1 mile fun run that you can register for here
If you have some spare time on your day off why not compose a limerick? The Frackville Pumpkin Festival is hosting their annual Limerick Contest again. The theme (of course) is pumpkins! Entries will be read at the Pumpkin Festival on October 6 and the top three will win prizes. Include your name, address and phone number on the BACK of your limerick. Limericks must be RECEIVED by September 26 at:
FBPA Limerick Contest
PO Box 9

So by my guess, you have about 3 weeks before you have to pop your poetry into the mail. If you need a little help getting it just right, there are some tips for writing limericks here. Please, nothing naughty!
