Here's something new...or at least only in its second year. The Nativity BVM High School Chess Tournament. It's held on February 18 so Schuylkill County students in grades Kindergarten through 12 have an entire month to hone their skills -- but registration must be received by February 10. There is a $10 registration fee.
Students will be divided into three divisions:
If your school has four students competing, it will be eligible for the 2018 Chess Champion Trophy. In each division their will be a school trophy as well as three individual medals. So even if your school doesn't have four chess players you can still come! All competitors must have adult supervision.
Check-in is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. with the competition beginning at 8:30 a.m. Each competitor will play four games of chess, with the last round beginning at 1:30 (earlier if all the games from the last rounds are completed early). No elimination. There will be some boards provided but competitors are encouraged to bring a board, pieces and chess clock -- or a mobile device with the chess clock app.
Lunch will not be provided. Please bring a bag lunch.
