As Winnie the Pooh would say, "It's a rather blustery day!" I choose to ignore that (and the snow crystals I saw in the grass when I popped outside this morning) and focus on the SUN! Isn't it gorgeous? To celebrate the sun-shiney days we've had I want to tell you about so many outdoorsy fun happening.
First up, if you enjoy a stroll in the sunshine take your camera (or phone) with you and snap some pics for the annual Schuylkill Conservation District "Give Us Your Best Shot" Photo Contest. The contest is free and you can enter just one photo in each category -- either by emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailing an 8" x 10" unframed print to Schuylkill Conservation District, 1206 Ag Center Drive, Pottsville PA 17901. Photos must have been taken in Schuylkill County between January 1, 2018 and April 6, 2019 and sent by April 6, 2019. Include your name, address, phone number, email address as well as the type of camera used. There will be cash prizes in each category as well as one Grand Prize winner and one Runner-up.
Now, a drumroll before I share the categories........
At Sweet Arrow Lake County Park there's plenty happening. This week bring the whole family to "Indians of the Great Lakes and Beyond" on Sunday, March 31 from 7 pm to 8 pm. This free presentation by Dave "Big Owl" McSurdy at the clubhouse will include a slide show and a display of Native American items. Then on Tuesday, April 2 Porcupine Pat McKinney will share "Pow Wow (PA Dutch) Folk Medicine" from 7 pm to 8 pm. You can learn about folk medicine treatments, the history behind them and even some stories from people who have used these treatments. The cost is $5 per person. Please register with Susan Long at 570-624-3018.
