I'm beginning to think Mother Nature didn't get the memo that it's Spring! The rain I can accept but this chilly weather? It has me searching for some indoor fun until the temperatures improve. I also have tomato plants I'm afraid to plant in my garden that are enjoying some extended time in my kitchen!
If you're a history lover I have two events that might interest you this weekend:
Centralia: Pennsylvania's Lost Town will be playing at the Majestic Theatre, 209 N. Centre Street, Pottsville on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. If you always choose the History category when playing along to the game show Jeopardy why not head to the Frackville Museum, Frackville Municipal & Community Center, 42 S. Center Street on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. Speaker Lorraine Stanton will be checking people's knowledge of Pennsylvania trivia. The museum will be having an open house on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. so stop by to see what they have to offer.
Dog lover shouldn't miss Pawcasso on Saturday, May 6 at the Walk In Art Center, Schuylkill Haven. This is a rain or shine event but, knowing how wet dog smells, I recommend that you try for the dry spells in between the showers they're calling for on Saturday. This event is so fun! Even if you don't have a dog it's fun to just watch. Bring your dog to "create" a masterpiece -- they must be on a leash and with you at all times. For $5 you get an 8x10 canvas. Attention kids! If mom loves her dog this might be a crazy, out-of-the-box Mother's Day gift. Fees benefit the SPCA. There will also be a pet parade at 12:30 with prizes. Registration is $5, to benefit the SPCA. For more info contact email@example.com
Finally, on your way to pick up some sunblock for the upcoming sunny days, stop by The Outpatient Surgery Center, 200 Schuylkill Medical Plaza, Pottsville from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for a free skin cancer screening. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common type of cancer so it would benefit you to get a quick check. No registration needed. For more information go to www.schuylkillhealth.com
Haven fun this weekend and hang in there! Sunny days are right around the corner!
