![]() Both of my daughters and my son are runners...completing various 5Ks and cross country meets. I have managed to cross the finish line (barely) in a few 5Ks and it looks like the running mania is spreading. My mom wants to try a 5K. Of course since she's been retired for quite a few years, she's planning on walking instead of running. For her first appearance on the race circuit she's heading to a neighboring town--Port Carbon for their Firecracker 5K on July 4. If you're a newbie think about the Firecracker 5K , it's mostly flat and lots of fun, not to mention that it benefits the town's parade and fireworks. You can register at Pretzel City Sports or email nessa54@msn.com for a paper registration form. Registration is $20 until June 15 and $25 until June 29. First 200 registered runners/walkers receive a free t-shirt. You can also purchase a t-shirt for just $10 (call Deniece at 570-573-1946). Registration is July 3 between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the gazebo next to the library. Not feeling competitive? How about a local hike instead? There are several coming up and the weather is perfect!
