Just yesterday, a friend told me that she had family arriving for a visit from Chicago. Happily, we quickly named any number of things they could do, see and experience while they were visiting. So don't let people tell you there's nothing to do in Schuylkill County!
As for myself, I'll be heading to Schuylkill Haven this weekend for the annual Allied Artists Annual Art show in a NEW venue -- Penn State Schuylkill Health and Wellness Building. Opening night is Saturday, July 13 from 6 pm to 8 pm and it will be open during those hours through July 20. There will be one exception -- this Sunday, July 14 the hours will be 2 pm to 4 pm. This is a fun show with a wide variety of art to view. You also have the opportunity to purchase art -- everything from originals to notecards -- their is something for everyone's budget.
Feel like stretching your creative muscles? Why not grab your camera (there are categories for both "camera" cameras and cellphone cameras and head to one of our state parks - Locust Lake, Tuscarora and Swatara -- because the PA Parks Department is hosting a photography contest. You can submit up to six photos until September 4 and the categories are so fun. Categories include selfie, dogs in nature, intergenerational moments and photos by young photographers (12 to 17). Check it out here.
