I tried to make a blueberry pie this summer. It did not go well. Perhaps I am more an eater of pies and less a maker of pies. Thankfully, I have our local libraries to support my love of pies. Not with cookbooks I can borrow that have delectable pie recipes (tried that, didn't work) but with their regular Deppen Pie Fundraisers. So if you think your Labor Day Picnic would be vastly improved by a delicious summer pie, stop by the Pottsville Free Public Library. You can order a Deppen Pie until Saturday, August 17 for delivery on Friday, August 30 (after noon please - they need a few hours to sort out the pies after delivery). Pies are just $10 and also are a great thing to pop in the freezer until you're in a pie mood (except the lemon sponge and coconut custard which do not do well in the freezer). You can choose from:
