Does someone in your family love the roar of race cars? If so, they're probably glued to the TV each weekend for the latest race and counting the days until dirt track racing season here in Pennsylvania begins. This week they have a chance to get a sneak preview of the season at the Big Diamond Speedway Car Show at the Schuylkill Mall. the show beings today Monday. Feb. 29 and last until Friday, March 4.
March 4 is an extra special day with a whole slate of activities: driver interviews, tire changing contest, and Big Wheel races and car building workshops for the kids. More details here. If you refer a quieter -- but no less lively -- part of Schuylkill County, why not head to the movies? Not exactly movies, but movie theaters, those places that brought the world of make believe to life all around the country for decades. The Schuylkill County Historical Society is opening their "Schuylkill County Cinemas" exhibit on Wednesday, March 2. On opening night there will be a Laurel and Hardy short "Berth Marks", which tells the tale of their adventure on the last train to Pottsville, to start the exhibit off with a bang! The show will begin at 6 p.m. and is free to members and $5 for non-members. RSVP by calling the society at 570-622-7540. The exhibit, which includes photographs and artifacts from local cinemas, will be open for approximately a month.
