![]() It seems like every day I read another article or watch anther news story on TV about the opioid epidemic. What can you do to fight an epidemic? Perhaps the most basic is, like the Boy Scouts, to be prepared. Most people have taken classes in CPR but now there is another First Aid skill to add to your list: Narcan application. Narcan is used during a suspected opioid overdose and can be used in a non-medical situation by just about anyone. To learn more, you can come to "Public Access to Narcan" at the Community Mission, 336 N. Front Street, Minersville on Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm. Dr. Stefovic will be giving a free presentation but you need to pre-register by calling 570-628-6990 or by visiting www.coginc.org You can also learn more and support those in recovery at the third annual Overdose Awareness Event at the Owl Creek Reservoir in Tamaqua on July 21 from 10 am to 5 pm. Along with educational information and inspirational speakers, there will be fun activities for children, a cornhole tournament($10 per team), a candlelight walk, a butterfly release ($5) and t-shirts ($5).
