This past weekend my daughter and I visited the Yuengling Mansion for their annual Christkindlmarkt. As we took the long way to the Carriage House (past the sunken garden) she recalled playing their during pre-school and after summer art classes. She was amazed that her childhood playground was now home to Shakespeare performance -- free Shakespeare performances -- compliments of Schuylkill Free Shakespeare, a group of local actors sharing Shakespeare with the community.
But their next performance won't be at the Yuengling Mansion or outdoors (thank goodness considering the weather). On Saturday, December 9 at 1 p.m. two Shakespeare plays will be performed at the Majestic Theatre, 209 Centre Street, Pottsville. Tickets are $10 and will benefit Schuylkill Free Shakespeare. Pottsville Area High School will be presenting "Midsummer Night's Dream". Nativity High School will be presenting "The Tragedy of Richard III".
Another fundraiser on Saturday is a Dine-Out at The Mineshaft Cafe, 1120 Centre Street, Ashland from noon to 6 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ashland Public Library to replace the children's section shelving recently damaged by water.
