Tonight the weatherman mentioned that the end of the week might have a heat wave in store for us. It doesn't matter where the temperature tops out -- I know that fall is creeping closer and closer. My nephew has already bought his new "school" sneakers while a young friend of mine heading to Kindergarten just found her Spiderman backpack. As we head to stores with our children and their lists, it's easy to forget that for many students it isn't about the "perfect" shoe or school supply. In many families there's a struggle to provide the bare minimum of supplies.
Can you provide a few extra supplies? A box of crayons, a tablet, a big pink eraser? Schuylkill United Way is holding their 15th annual Stuff the Bus Campaign. You can donate your supplies at Mother Bear's Candy, Cressona Mall; Wal-Mart, St. Clair; Fairlane Village Mall, McCann School of Business and Technology, The Lodge at Sharp Mountain and BB&T Bank, Pottsville. Donate your supplies by July 31.
At the Salvation Army in Pottsville, supplies will be sorted on August 4 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and backpacks will be stuffed August 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. If you'd like to volunteer call 570-622-6421 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
