Dealing with Bullying

Parenting is a tricky business. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to most kid problems and sometimes our instinctive answer to a problem and what works in the real world are two different things. What's a parent to do? Often we turn to other parents who are in the trenches with us but we can get valuable information from others too.

One issue that most kids (and their parents) face at some time is bullying. Sometimes your kid is being bullying, other times they're watching someone else being bullied and wondering "What should I do?" and every once in a while they're the bully. So, even if your child isn't in a bullying situation right now, it doesn't hurt to learn all you can because one day they - or one of their siblings - might be facing it.

Nativity High School, Pottsville is hosting a bullying survivor and activist Jodee Blanco on February 11 from 6 pm to 8 pm for a free presentation open to all about preventing and dealing with bullying called It's NOT Just Joking Around. Blanco is the author of the New York Times bestseller PLEASE STOP LAUGHING AT ME as well as two other companion books, a journal and a book of the experiences of children who survived bullying. This is a presentation no parent should miss.
