Healthy Shenandoah
VISION in partnership with Shenandoah is a 2023 Safe Routes to Parks Pennsylvania Activating Communities grantee!
VISION and Shenandoah are working closely with Safe Routes Partnership staff to proactively engage community members in the process of assessing park access, putting together an action plan to address barriers, and begin implementing that plan.
Our first step is gathering information from Shenandoah residents about their park use, how they get to them, and how the conditions along existing community connectors (streets & sidewalks) impact their park use. While the main survey has closed you can still provide feedback by completing the online survey, which can be found here.
Our second step was a two-day Safe Routes to Parks in person workshop held on May 23th and 24th.
Our Third Step includes gathering additional community feedback, working with community members and leaders, developing early action step plans, and continuing to work with Safe Routes Partnership on Safe Routes to Parks Action Plan.
Our Fourth Step includes identifying early action steps...easy wins. Steps include holding public events like a Ice Cream Social and Bike Rodeo at Shenandoah Public Health and Safety Night.
Final Step includes receiving the Safe Routes to Parks Action Plan for the borough. The plan provides steps and suggestions for future work to increase park access and improve walkability in the Borough. The finished plan can be found here! This plan will be used to identify projects and secure funding to increase progress.
