VISION's Spooky Schuylkill 5k
Zombie Run/Walk New name...same course...more fun!! Kick off Halloween with a fun 5k! Start and finish line at Faith Reform UCC with scenic 3.1 loop miles of road and groomed trail. Run or stroll along the Landingville portion of Schuylkill River Trail but beware of zombies and other creatures along the course! Don’t worry...Zombies are more afraid of you than you are of them and do not chase participants. Entertain or scare our course zombies with YOUR best Halloween costumes! START TIMES October 31, 2020 Race Format: To comply with CDC guidelines and any anticipated restriction on group size, the race will be held with a modified start / time format. Start can take place anytime from 8:00a.m. - 10:00 a.m. The finish line will remain open until 11:00 a.m. All racers will be scored off of chip time measured from your individual start time to your finish time. PACKET PICKUP To reduce any crowd size, and to comply with all CDC guidelines on social distancing, we will be offering pre-race packet pickup options. Packet Pickup Locations October 30, 2020: 12:00pm-6:00pm Schuylkill County’s VISION, 11 East Main Street, Schuylkill Haven October 31, 2020: Race Day Packet Pickup will begin at 7:30. Due to staggered packet pick up will remain open until 10:00am. COSTS Preregistration: Adults 18 years old and up: $25 Children 17 years old and below*: $15 Family/Group Rate: $75 for four registrants Virtual Race: $25 any age/anytime/anywhere **If COVID 19 guidelines change and force an event cancellation, all in person registrants will transfer to virtual option. Registration fees are not reimbursable. Day of registration (7:30am-9:30am) Adults 18 years old and up: $30 Children 17 years old and below*: $15 No group rates day of race 10/27/2020 Update: No gaiters will be available with day of registration. *Children under 10 can race with an adult at no fee/registration but will not receive a timing bib, mask or race time prizes. All are eligible for costume prizes. WHAT REGISTRATION GETS YOU First 200 participants receive a Halloween themed versatile gaiter (which can be worn as a mask, headband, ponytail holder, and more!), chip timed bib, professionally timed results, and refreshments. *Virtual Participants receive a Halloween themed versatile gaiter and a printable bib. Register for virtual by October 10, 2020 to guarantee delivery or pick up. 10/27/2020 Update: No gaiters will be available with day of registration. AWARDS AND PRIZES Halloween themed “trophy” glasses, created by artist Jordan Fees, will be awarded to overall top male and female runners and age group winners two deep (13 and under(if registered); 14 - 19; 20 - 29; 30 - 39; 40 - 49; 50 - 59; 60+). Best zombie volunteer prize Several costume categories (adult, children, group, dog) RESULTS AND TIMING INFORMATION Race timing conducted by Second Wind Timing with results available at the finish line and emailed to the registered address. Bibs are chipped for accurate times from start to finish! WHAT REGISTRATION SUPPORTS All proceeds benefit Schuylkill County’s VISION (VISION). VISION creates and supports community collaboration in Schuylkill County, PA; serving the people of Schuylkill County since 1998. Our mission is to mobilize community resources to help create a better present, and future, for Schuylkill County. VISION cultivates partnerships, activates resources, and empowers the residents of Schuylkill County. In 2019-2020 VISION and our community partners have maintained 4 community gardens; participated in the Schuylkill Suicide Prevention Task Force; supported parks and walking programs (Schuylkill on the Move); engaged students from all of the County high schools in the Youth Summit focusing on “Positive Schuylkill”: Live, Work, and Play; participated in the Schuylkill Resilience Project; highlighted county artists at Block of Art; collaborated to decrease the impacts of opioid (and other substances) misuse on the Schuylkill County REACH (Opioid Overdose Task Force), the Interfaith Health Network, and St Luke’s Miners’ Opioid Response Grant; supported relief and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the 2018 flooding; and educated all ages about health and wellness throughout the county with LVHN Schuylkill’s Healthy Schuylkill Communities and the ACHIEVE Program. WEATHER Event is rain or shine, so dress appropriately. There is no gear check but parking is close to check in and starting line. Sorry, race fees are not refundable. DOGS Dogs are welcome and encouraged to dress up. Dogs must be comfortable around humans and other dogs and must be leashed at all times. |

IMPORTANT RACE UPDATES
Hello All! Due to the increased numbers of COVID cases in Schuylkill County we are taking all protective precautions for your safety. Advanced registration has unfortunately been closed!!
** If you are registered and are uncomfortable with attending the in person race you can go Virtual!! Please email mfitzpatrick@schuylkillvision.com to make arrangements to pick up your gaiters, bibs, and swag bags next week. Additional information will be provided on opportunities to submit times from on your own race and costume photos.
* If you are not feeling well or have recently tested positive or been instructed to quarantine due to contact please stay home. Again, email mfitzpatrick@schuylkillvision.com to arrange picking up gaiter, bib and swag bag, when you are feeling better
*** MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED at registration, before you start race, and immediately upon finishing. Hand sanitizer will be available.
* While we would love to spend time with your all...you are strongly encouraged to limit your time at the race...run the race, enjoy, grab a water, and then depart...sorry! All awards will be announced after the race and winners contacted to make arrangements for prize pick ups.
* If participating in Costume contest report to orange back drop to have photo taken (with bib number displayed).
* Start line will be open from 8:00am-10:30am. You do not have to be at the start at 8:00!!! Show up any time between 8-10:30! (Race Day packet pick up is also open from 7:30-10:15 so you can pick up your packet right before hitting the start!). It does not matter when you cross the start line...the bib will capture your start and stop time when you cross the lines!
*Follow road and trail run rules. On the road run against traffic (left side of road), on the trail run on the right side of the trail. If passing someone make presence know with a "passing on the left" and pass on far left of the trail.
